When the water rises, the truth does not disappear. It waits to be recorded.
In the coastal town of Harwick, the Tidefields estate was sold as secure, protected by a flood defence promised to withstand the worst storm in a hundred years. Then the water comes.
For barrister Lena Okafor, the flooded homes are more than a disaster. They are the beginning of a case. Tideborne Developments promised safety, residents kept records, and the walls still hold the marks of what happened. But tragedy is not enough in court. To win, Lena must prove that the company knew the flood model was wrong before a single house was sold.
The missing proof lies with Arjun Mehta, a former engineer who once paid a devastating personal price for telling the truth. He has rebuilt his life in the held weather of the Vinery, a glasshouse where heat, water and fragile living things obey rules more honest than the institutions he left behind. Lena needs his evidence. Arjun has every reason never to give it.
As storms gather over Harwick and the hearing moves closer, the case becomes a reckoning not only with corporate wrongdoing, but with professional ethics, damaged trust and the human cost of being right in public. The residents of Tidefields are not waiting to be rescued. They have kept their own records: stair marks, flood lines, complaint lists, a teenager’s diary. What remains is whether those records can force a powerful company to answer.
Atmospheric, morally serious and deeply human, Glasshouse Weather is a literary climate justice novel about flooding, truth, evidence, betrayal and the ordinary courage of people who refuse to let what happened to them be washed away.
Listen to Glasshouse Weather for a powerful story of climate, conscience and the records that survive when everything else is under water.
