Taking care of an injured vampire is hard, especially when you're bleeding profusely. In an attempt to save both of their lives, Seth leaves Victoria alone in his apartment and takes refuge with an old friend.
But old friends bring back old memories, and Seth finds himself mulling over pivotal moments in his past, from the time when his best friend died to an uncomfortable meeting with the Vampire High Council that changed his outlook on both vampires and life.
