Lorilee Marple returned to her native town of Jefferson after an expansive education up north, only to find she had outgrown the quaint ways of her fellow townspeople. She was not vindictive, vengeful, or even spiteful, although she came across that way to some. She was a rather genteel woman, now in her 70s, who simply wanted to remake the world to her own image; a mission which rubbed some the wrong way.
Local elections provide the background for this book noir, with unforgettable characters destined to become lovers, victims, and culprits, willing or not. Look out for the wayward judge, the missing-in-inaction sheriff, and a whole gang of do-gooders out to reform the county.
