The power dies. Cars stop running. Phones fall silent. And in a single morning, the world changes forever. Thirteen-year-old Logan Hopkins thought the strange colors in the sky were just something unusual to talk about. Then the power grid collapses, modern technology fails, and every system his family depends on disappears without warning. With his parents stranded hundreds of miles away in Dallas, Logan is left at home with his two younger brothers and their nanny, Becca. At first, they wait for help. Everyone does. But as the days pass, food runs low, water stops, and the neighborhood begins to break down. The disaster is only the beginning. Strangers appear. Neighbors turn desperate. Trust becomes dangerous. And Logan is forced to grow up faster than any child should, learning that protecting the people you love sometimes means making impossible choices. When it becomes clear that no one is coming to save them, Logan and Becca make a dangerous decision: leave everything behind and try to reach family across a broken Tennessee landscape. With limited fuel, fading supplies, and three children depending on them, the journey becomes a test of courage, sacrifice, and survival. But the farther they travel, the more Logan understands the hardest truth of all. The world after the fall is different. Dangerous. The Ones We Protect is a grounded post-apocalyptic survival thriller about family, resilience, and the quiet strength ordinary people find when everything familiar is stripped away. Perfect for listeners who enjoy realistic grid-down fiction, survival suspense, and emotional stories about what people will risk for the ones they love.
