I didn't know what to make of them at the start, finding myself enmeshed in their curious lives: beautiful young men risking death for us all.
Because I loved them, I kept my promise never to reveal their special gift, never to speak of the women who also shared that unusual consciousness, knowing their secret was a burden I had to bear.
And as a witness to their different way of being, I learned to smile whilst my heart was breaking.
